Another book review

This post will focus on a review of Written in Bone Hidden Stories in What We Leave Behind by Sue Black. Huge thanks to Skyhorse Publishing and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book.


First things first, I'm a huge fan of Sue Black's work, absolutely loved her previous work All That Remains: A Life in Death. I'm also a huge fan of detective stories and true crime. When I read the synopsis of this book I knew I had to read it. It is sensational, incredibly well written, as I'd expect, and it's really engaging. The book is also very informative while not expecting you to have a scientific background to fully understand it. There are passages in the book that are graphic, certainly not for the faint hearted but personally I enjoy reading that level of detailed description. Dame Black is a fantastic narrator, her writing manages to be respectful while still maintaining an absorbing tone for the reader. If you have any interest in forensics then I'd wholly recommend this book. It's absolutely fascinating.

Life Hacks For A Little Alien Alice Franklin

  A story for everyone who has ever felt just that little bit different.  The tale of Little Alien is heartwarming and we follow how they navigate the world around them through the book they are trying to understand, it is t old from the second perspective.  When the Alien discovers the unusual Voynich manuscript she becomes convinced that it will explain the mysteries of the world, and ultimately herself too.  .Personally second point of perspective is a little bit tricky to read at times as its not something I overly choose to read. It's a very quick read and does flow well and it is broken at times by footnotes.  Thank you NetGalley as always and to little, Brown and Company for sending this book to review.

Book Review The Great When by Alan Moore

Book Review The Great When by Alan Moore 'Dennis Knuckleyard is a hapless eighteen-year-old who works and lives in a second-hand bookstore. One day, his boss and landlady, Coffin Ada, sends him to retrieve some rare books, one of which, Dennis discovers, should not exist. A London Walk by Rev. Thomas Hampole is a fictitious book that appears in a real novel by another author. Yet A London Walk is physically there in his hands, nonetheless'.   and so begins this fantasy novel. Really great storyline, Moore creates a richly detailed London that draws you in. It is surreal and sarcastic at times with bleak elements too. At times it is a little challenging to read, but the pacing is good despite a slightly slow start. I was only familiar with Moore's graphic novel but this was really good.
