Long time and no update to this little blog, I’ve moved abroad and things have been hectic to say the least ! I’m just getting back into writing this blog.  I am reading Uncommon Type by Tom Hanks. This is a beautiful collection of short stories. I love short stories anyway and it’s always fantastic that people are still writing them. I’ve admired Tom Hanks as an actor, my dad is a fan and he introduced me to Mr. Hanks’ earlier films. When I heard in Twitter that he was publishing a book that wasn’t an autobiography I was intrigued. This volume of seventeen short stories are all unconnected but they do share things in common, they look at the humour in life and examine human kinds foibles, they are also linked by typewriters. Having joined NetGalley, I'd applied to read two books. One publisher said no but one thankfully said yes. The book that I've been sent from is the publishers Grove Atlantic and is called 'From Holmes to Sherlock' by Matthias Bostrom translated from the Swedish by Michael Gallagher. One slight issue is the formatting of this book on a Kindle device, occasionally sentences will break awkwardly but it's not too distracting. The author beautifully sets the scene in this dinner, outlining the vision that Gatiss had for Holmes, as the author eloquently puts it, he wants to take it from Holmes to Sherlock. The man D...
I have joined NetGalley ! Looking forward to reading and reviewing lots of interesting books.
My circumstances in life have changed. I'm going to be working for myself and will therefore (hopefully) have more free time and will use this blog much more. This blog will be a record of my thoughts on books, music and cds as well as a place for more generalised musings. As I'm just about getting ready to go out tonight this post is short. Tomorrow's post will be longer and will be a review, unsure on what yet but I think I'll start of (no surprises here) with a book review.
